Ismaila Sarr’s composed 11th minute penalty after having been brought down by Billy Mitchell, proved to be the pivotal and probably one of the most decisive moments in Watford’s campaign.

In having achieved automatic promotion, Watford have followed Norwich City and the highlight of why this occasion has taken place is because of their stellar home record at Vicarage Road.

Xisco Munoz’s side are currently on their best run at Vicarage Road since 1977, with the win against Millwall being their club record 18th home truimph.

With the Pozzo family creating a habit of rapidly changing managers, Hayden Mullins saw out the remainder of last years horrific season where Watford had their faith sealed for relegation under Nigel Pearson.

Eventually, Vladimir Ivic was appointed in August to help resurrect the inconsistent form that Watford were displaying at the time. Ivic’s reign lasted just four months and 20 league games, and he was sacked after the Hornets were left 5th in the table and four points behind the top two.

The final nail in the coffin was the verbal argument with striker Troy Deeney and as a result, he was replaced by a certain Xisco Munoz to become Watford’s fifth manager in less than a year.

Since then, Watford went on a resurrection with the 40-year-old Spaniard converting draw into wins and making clean sheets a norm with Bachmann becoming first choice keeper over the highly experienced Ben Foster and the likes of Francisco Sierralta, William Troost-Ekong and Kiko Femenia all becoming formidable pillars as the back line of the Watford defence.

In terms of attacking display, the somewhat uninspiring attacking powerness that was evidently seen missing in the first half of the season, returned in full flow under Munoz. The best example of this transistion came against Bristol City when a 6-0 demolition was eventually termed as the best game that the Hornets had played this season.

Talisman Sarr, Brazilian teenager Joao Pedro and Sweden winger Ken Sema have formed a prolific trio upfront, becoming a constant menace for any side they have come up against under Munoz.

Heading back to the Premier League next season, only time will tell how the chop and change approach often adopted by owner Gino Pozzo will come into effect as the Hornets look to reshape and construct a side capabale of surviving the Premier League.
