Bristol City have sacked manager Dean Holden following a run of 6 consecutive defeats. Last night’s 0-2 loss to Reading proved to be the final straw for the club board who felt ‘that a change of Head Coach is necessary’.

Holden was only appointed by the club in August following the sacking of Lee Johnson in July 2020. The club started the campaign strongly and were leading the pack after 4 games. They had slipped to 6th by the 9th of December and, in the wake of last night's defeat slipped into the bottom half of the table.

Although losing 0-2 to a play off rival last night may have proven to be the result which cost Holden his job, the decision was likely made much easier given the embarrassing 6-0 defeat on Saturday at the hands of Watford.

Bristol City have now lost 10 of their last 13 league games. Although no new manager has been identified by the club, Paul Simpson and Keith Downing have been put in temporary charge and will lead the club against Barnsley on Saturday (3pm).
